Mysterious Noise

For a couple of months now there has been a very funny noise coming from the engine bay when driving.  It was best described as a 'swooshing' noise that varied with engine speed. It didn't sound expensive but was becoming a bit annoying.  We have never managed to track it down.

So I took it to my mechanic to see if he could figure it out.  He solved it in under a minute 🙂  He worked his way around the engine and when he put his hand on the timing belt cover the noise disappeared.    

This was when 20/20 hindsight kicked in.  A couple of months ago I removed the timing belt covers to check on the belts.  Obviously when I put it back on I didn't seat it properly so the noise was the timing belt rubbing on the cover.  So it could have become VERY expensive.   A quick push on the cover and the noise went away completely and it hasn't come back.
